Based on our extensive experience we have developed a comprehensive understanding of the key challenges related to entrepreneurship development and support. The below information provides a summary of a few of our recent projects:
We completed a national research study of the South African entrepreneurship ecosystem for the FirstRand Foundation and FirstRand Empowerment Foundation. The project was delivered by UBUNTU Business in partnership with Wits Enterprise, a subsidiary wholly owned by the University of Witwatersrand.
The project was initiated by Tshikululu Social Investments, on behalf of the foundations, as part of a larger programme with various other research projects (land and agrarian reform, water conservation and education) to provide recommendations of potential interventions, programmes and partners through which to invest their CSI funding.
City of Joburg (CoJ)
We developed a customized version of the UBUNTU Entrepreneurship Development Programme for the setup of a rooftop food garden for CoJ at a homeless shelter in Hillbrow, opposite Constitution Hill. The project was included training a team of beneficiaries from the inner city (Region F) on an extensive entrepreneurship development programme, including: training (operations, marketing and finance); as well as urban farming through hydroponics.
Business coaching and support was provided through the setup of a state of the art hydroponics rooftop food garden. The food garden has 26 tunnels, each with 75 plants and a total capacity of 1 950 plants and 2 seedling tunnels for the germination of up to 4 000 seedlings. From the 25 beneficiaries, a team of 6 woman farmers were selected to establish a cooperative to operate the farm.
Ekukhanyeni Relief Project
We work with Ekukhanyeni through a combined agricultural entrepreneurship development programme to assist rural household beneficiaries in Lawley (Region G). We regularly provide training, coaching and practical support services to assist beneficiaries in setting up small-scale agri-business while managing productivity and quality in their gardens.
Through our partnership with Ekukhanyeni we have delivered a number of projects in Lawley including entrepreneurship development training for Community Work Project (CWP) and financial management training for principals of Early Childhood Development Centres (ECDC) in the community.
QuickBooks South Africa
Through a Joint Venture (JV) partnership with QuickBooks SA, UBUNTU Business has established the EasyBiz Offices at their head office in Melrose Estate, Johannesburg. The offices have been setup as a co-working space for entrepreneurs through an affordable and flexible model.
The offices provide access to a fully furnished and serviced open plan workspace. Our facilities include reception, boardrooms, meeting rooms, training rooms, WiFi internet, printers, scanners, photocopiers and access to other shared services.
UBUNTU Business Bootcamps
As part of our entrepreneurship development initiatives we run UBUNTU Business Bootcamps as a self-funded workshop to empower aspiring entrepreneurs to understand the fundamentals of entrepreneurship and small business management.
Our strategic planning bootcamps assist entrepreneurs to unlock their strategic-competitive-advantage, understand the competitive environment of their industry and conduct a strategic analysis for their business.
We have delivered bootcamps throughout Gauteng (Johannesburg and Pretoria), and in other provinces such as the Free State, Eastern Cape, Mpumalanga and most recently in neighboring countries such as Botswana.
